Create space in your life

Our lives are often very full with all we have to do, to remember, to organize… It is therefore very easy to feel overwhelmed, to feel we do not have time to do it all.  If we do not change anything, the risk over time is to go into chronic stress and fatigue, burnout, illnesses… So maybe it is high time to find another way so that you can feel you have more space to breathe, rest, be.

If you are so overwhelmed that you need an urgent solution:

Take a break now to recharge: go for a walk, take a micro-break (see video on how to do this) or try the following:

Breathe in and gently contract the muscles in your whole body, being mindful of any tension or discomfort. Breathe out loudly, let go and completely relax the muscles, letting the tensions flow away. Do this three times and listen to how you are feeling inside.

And then, what about trying new things?  Start with what feels easiest for you:

Look at your diary: what is truly essential, what can be delegated, what can be completely forgotten without the world crashing down?

Take regular micro-breaks every day and use that time to truly listen to how you are feeling. Listen for signs of fatigue and overwhelm.  Take a break before you are tired, this makes it quicker and more efficient.

Prioritise rest and recharge: put first in your diary days off, activities that will recharge you, allow you to have more energy and focus for the rest.  If you cannot find any slots in the coming weeks, look further and put them in the following ones, maybe in 2-3 weeks’ time and for the following weeks/months.

Learn to say no and to stop before you reach your limits. Pay attention to the small signs that mean you are doing too much.

Slow down… do at least one thing every day more slowly, more gently, while being fully present to it, enjoying it.

And the ultimate challenge: take time to do nothing, watch a landscape, let your mind wander, listen to the sounds of nature… time to simply be…
